Marriage ministry is competing with the couch. The couples you most want at a marriage event are the ones most tired on a Friday night, and a workshop is a tough sell to someone who just finished a work week and a bedtime routine. A comedy date night is not a tough sell. It is a babysitter and a night out, and it happens to be at church.
Crosseyed Comedy's couples nights are built on material about long marriages, raising kids, in-laws, and the daily negotiations of sharing a life with someone. Between the four of us we have been married for most of a century, and all of it is on the table. Couples laugh at themselves, at each other, and most importantly together, which is the whole point.
How churches run it
Dessert and doors
Round tables, candles, a dessert bar, and childcare down the hall. The room should feel like a date.
The show
Sixty to seventy-five minutes of standup on marriage and family, with a couples game that gets two or three pairs on stage.
A marriage moment
Many churches follow the show with a 10-minute word from the marriage pastor, a blessing, or an invitation to the spring class. Comedy opens the door; you decide what walks through.
Table conversation
We can supply light conversation cards for the dessert portion so couples talk to each other, not only at the stage.
Who shows up
Everyone from newlyweds to couples celebrating fifty years, and that mix is the magic. A twenty-six-year-old hears a joke about year thirty and laughs at the future; a sixty-year-old hears a joke about toddlers and laughs at the past. Our material is clean, so the only thing anyone is nervous about is being picked for the game show. It is also pastorally safe: no jokes that belittle marriage, husbands, wives or singles, because we actually like all of them.
Valentine's, anniversaries and marriage conferences
The February calendar fills first, so if you want a Valentine's weekend date night, book in the fall. Comedy also works as the Friday-night opener for a weekend marriage conference, or as the celebration dinner for a vow-renewal or anniversary Sunday.
What booking looks like
You send the date, city, venue, expected crowd and the kind of night you want. We reply with availability, a suggested lineup and format, and a clear price. From there you get one point of contact, a simple agreement, a tech rider that fits in one email (a microphone, a stool and a light), and promotional assets: photos, bios, a short reel and ready-to-post social graphics.
On the night, the comedians arrive early, sound-check quietly, and keep to the time you gave them. Your pastor gets the room back exactly when the schedule says.
